quarrelJust call me a snow snake! I spent the day on the slopes yesterday with Shaterri. He found a nice deal that gives three lessons and three days' worth of rentals and lift passes in one package. It's only my second time out, and I'm happy with how much I remembered from my first lessons. It was a blast, and I look forward to the next two trips before spring sets in. (Don't ask me when that is. After a decade in southern California, this strange concept of "seasons" still perplexes me.)
I'm not nearly as sore today as I expected. It's mainly just in my triceps, and it's more from falling than exercise. I was sure my calves would be aching today from the strain I put on them, but there's only a bit of stiffness. That's a good omen for next time, especially if I, like, you know, start actually exercising.
I have to say I wasn't impressed by the resort's overall lack of professionalism. They should have predicted there would be tons of people there, since the weather was great for skiing after being lousy the last two weekends, but the rental lines were staffed normally and were slow. The attendants at the rentals-only counter repeatedly instructed people who wanted lessons to go halfway through the short rental-only line to register, then cut to the head of the much longer lessons-with-rentals line downstairs for the rest of the process, which was both logistically difficult and improper since that line had registry terminals of its own. Our lesson instructor told us what moves to practice, but I got better instruction on how to do them from a passer-by who overheard me discussing turning troubles with Shaterri. The instructor also wasn't aware of where any medical or first aid resources were other than the Ski Patrol HQ. There was first aid available in the park entrance building. Shouldn't he have known that?
