Olympic boggle
Feb. 14th, 2010 11:47 amI was recently on the receiving end of a frustrating one-sided conversation regarding the Olympics. To paraphrase:
The modern Olympic games (not the ancient Greek ones) were founded by a bunch of almost religiously-fanatical white supremacists because of how well the Games work to exemplify and propagate their ideas of eugenics. You don't have to take my word on it, you can look it up. No nefarious purpose for me pointing that out, though. I'm only throwing it out there to stir discussion, and because I think this fact is interesting and significant and that too many people are ignorant of it. I'm certainly not saying you should feel bad about getting excited over the games. (Actually, I'm not saying anything at all about how I think you should feel, either good or bad.) If you do feel bad about liking them now, it's because you're too biased by political correctness to see the good parts of the Games objectively, but that's typical for Americans.
