My parents forwarded a letter to me that they thought was a scam at first. Some company says it located some revenue I never claimed and would retrieve it for me for the mere price of a 10% cut. I did some digging and discovered, to no great surprise, that it's kind of a scam. While there's anecdotal evidence they're not (always) fraudulent, and they advertise a good standing with the Better Business Bureau, they make their money providing a third-party service that can be done directly for free.

But now I know that. I also know, after running some searches on California's Unclaimed Property Division page, that I've got even more stranded funds. So for the cost of a stamp and two notorizations, I may have more than $3,000 coming to me...sometime within the next 180 days.
