I decided to treat myself to seafood tonight and went to the nearby Crabby Bob's Crab Shack to discover an interesting fact. It's not a bad restaurant. The franchise as a whole has some nice menu choices, like the bucket-of-assorted-seafood-and-boiled-vegetables-in-a-buttery-broth, served in an actual quart-sized galvanized steel pail. This particular establishment plays a wide mix of 80s music on the inside, and the outside patio is a well-established motorcycle hangout for the neighborhood riders and sometimes has a live band.

By pure chance, tonight is the last night it's going to be Crabby Bob's. Starting tomorrow it's closed for remodeling work, to reopen in two weeks as Honolulu Harry's. They say they'll serve "Hawaiian food" -- whatever that is. The inside is already well under reconstruction. Apparently two weeks is the maximum break a restaurant can have in its service without its food and liquor licenses expiring, so they did as much work as they could with the restaurant still running to avoid needing to reapply. You could tell it was their last day. Even at 5:00 on a Sunday, which is early for dinner, half their menu was out.

Here's hoping Harry's has good seafood. This was one of only two seafood restaurants within walking distance of me...and the other is Wasabi.

Maybe the new Coldstone ice creamery that also just opened up will help balance things out.
