Simply memorize these and several thousand other characters, and you're set! The language isn't insane or illogical at all.

Gets easier once you get comfortable with the "radical" system and what all the little picture elements derive from. Trust me, I had three years of college Japanese and ended up knowing, oh, easily 300 kanji! ;D But seriously, I look at those kanji and can tell them apart pretty much instantly, and I've haven't studied for, like, ten years now. You'll get the hang of 'em!
